PaRNet was made up of postgraduate research students undertaking creative practice-led research. We were based at the Universities of Leeds, Sheffield and York and welcomed students from these universities and others to join the network. As practitioner-researchers we were searching for ways of working that did not compromise either practice or research, but sought to view the practice as a legitimate way of ‘knowing’ and method of investigation. We built an interdisciplinary network of students across the universities in the White Rose Consortium and beyond. These friendships helped us to gain a greater insight into our own research interests and methodologies. The network held events that concentrated on sharing through practice and experimented with different ways of disseminating research. The topics covered in the workshops were developed through consultation with members of the network. We held events at Leeds, Sheffield, York and Liverpool. These included workshops in performance, creative writing, art therapy, music, documenting and writing about practice. Our events were held for a whole day and usually included two or three workshops run by guest research-practitioners, including members of the network. These provided an opportunity to trial ideas, to develop particular skills and to provide new insights into our own investigations. PaRNet included researchers at all stages of PhD completion providing a valuable resource and point of contact for practitioners undertaking doctoral study. |
